Gandalf: Beyond any doubt.
Saruman: So the Ring of Power has been found.
Gandalf: All these long years, it was in the Shire. Under my very nose.
Saruman: Yet you did not have the wit to see it. Your love of the halfling's leaf has clearly slowed your mind.
Gandalf: But we still have time- time enough to counter Sauron if we act quickly.
Saruman: Time? What time do you think we have?
(Scene cuts to inside Orthanc. Saruman is sitting down, talking to Gandalf who is pacing)
Saruman: Sauron has regained much of his former strength. He cannot yet take physical form, but his spirit has lost none of its potency. Concealed within his fortress, the Lord of Mordor sees all. His gaze pierces cloud, shadow, earth, and flesh. You know of what I speak, Gandalf. A Great Eye, lidless, wreathed in flame.
Gandalf: The Eye of Sauron.
Saruman: He is gathering all evil to him. Very soon, he'll have summoned an army great enough for an assault upon Middle-earth.
Gandalf: You know this? How?
Saruman: (looking slyly to the left) I have seen it.
Gandalf: (walking ahead of Saruman into the next room where there is a piece of silk laid over a podium) A palantir is a dangerous tool, Saruman.
Saruman: Why? Why should we fear to use it?
(Saruman removes the silk , revealing the palantir. Gandalf looks at Saruman fearfully)
Gandalf: They are not all accounted for, the lost Seeing-stones. We do not know who else may be watching.
(Gandalf takes the silk from Saruman and places it back over the palantir, and the Eye of Sauron flashes. Saruman goes to sit)
Saruman: The hour is later than you think. Sauron's forces are already moving. The Nine have left Minas Morgul.
Gandalf: (whispering in disbelief) The Nine?
Saruman: They crossed the River Isen on Mid-summer's Eve disguised as riders in black.
Gandalf: They've reached the Shire?
Saruman: They will find the Ring and kill the one who carries it.
Gandalf: (worriedly anxious) Frodo.
(He turns to run out the door which quickly shuts in his face. He makes for the next exit which then shuts until he is locked together with Saruman in the room with no way out)
Saruman: You did not seriously think that a Hobbit could contend with the will of Sauron? There are none who can. Against the power of Mordor, there can be no victory. We must join with him, Gandalf. We must join with Sauron. It would be wise, my friend.
Gandalf: Tell me, friend, when did Saruman the Wise abandon reason for madness?
(Saruman hollers and raises his staff, throwing Gandalf against the opposite wall. Saruman holds it towards him for a long time until the power breaks and Gandalf is released. He then raises his staff and sends Saruman's feet out from beneath him. Both wizards send each other across the floor in pain, both bleeding. Gandalf gives Saruman one last blow and knocks him into the door which opens into the next room. Saruman quickly gets to his feet and swipes Gandalf's staff, using both to spin him around)
Saruman: I gave you the chance of aiding me willingly, but you have elected the way of pain!
(Saruman points both staffs upwards and Gandalf flies into the air, still spinning around wildly. Scene cuts to a corn field where Sam is rustling through. He looks ahead and behind him, then around nervously)
Sam: (somewhat calm) Mr Frodo? (growing anxious) Frodo? Frodo!
(Frodo turns the corner and looks at Sam confusedly)
